Our community-led pilot projects are helping households make the move to efficient, all-electric homes with practical support, financial incentives and trusted local trades.

Starting in the Illawarra, our pilots are bringing households, installers, technology and energy experts together to test what electrification looks like in the real world.

By working across a whole neighbourhood, rather than one home at a time, we can see how electric homes, solar, batteries, EVs and smart energy technology work together and what it takes to make electrification easier for everyone.

Why we’re doing it

An electric home is cheaper to run and more comfortable. But making the switch isn’t always simple.

Our pilots are testing ways to remove the barriers and make electrification more affordable and accessible for households.

Lower energy bills with efficient electric appliances and smarter energy use
Cut emissions by replacing gas with renewable-powered electricity
Make the switch easier with subsidies, practical support and trusted installers
Understand the future grid by seeing how homes and energy technologies work together
Share what we learn so communities across Australia can electrify faster

What households can access

Depending on the pilot, participating households can receive:

Grassroots action

From one neighbourhood to a national movement

What started as a grassroots campaign in the Illawarra is now helping test a model that could be used across Australia.

Hundreds of households have already joined our pilots, giving us valuable insight into what works and what needs to change.
‍
The original Electrify 2515 pilot has expanded into neighbouring Bulli, while the Go Electric project in Canberra is taking the model to 1,000 homes.
‍
Different homes, different climates and different communities will help us understand what a successful transition to all-electric living can look like at scale.

Pilot Partners

Our pilots bring together the people needed to make electrification work in the real world — households, community groups, trades, technology providers, energy companies and governments.

The Electrify 2515 and 2516 Community Pilots are a joint project between Rewiring Australia, Brighte and Endeavour Energy, supported by local volunteers and funded in part by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its Advancing Renewables Program.

Go Electric Canberra is led by Electric Future in partnership with Electrify Canberra, Rewiring Australia and the ACT Government, with funding from ARENA.Local tradespeople and businesses are preferred suppliers across our pilots.

Rewiring Australia is a non-profit organisation dedicated to representing the people, households and communities in the energy system. We empirically demonstrate and communicate the cost savings, emissions reductions, and energy system benefits of electrification.
