Electrify 2515 Community Pilot

Australia's first community-led electrification pilot

It started with a simple idea: what if a whole community made the switch to all electric homes together?

Residents in the 2515 postcode came together to explore how they could electrify their homes, reduce energy costs and take more control of their energy future.

That grassroots movement became Electrify 2515 - a community-led pilot now helping shape how electrification can happen across Australia.

Making electrification easier

The Electrify 2515 pilot, which closed applications in July 2026, supported participating households to:

  • Replace gas appliances with efficient electric alternatives
  • Reduce energy use and household energy costs
  • Install smart energy technology
  • Access subsidies and financing to make upgrades more affordable

Rather than looking at homes individually, the pilot focuses on a concentrated part of the electricity grid.

That gives us a unique opportunity to understand what happens when lots of homes electrify together and how the grid can support that transition.

A community making the switch

More than 500 homes are already participating across the 2515 postcode.

Along the way, the project has brought local trades and suppliers into the transition and generated real-world insights into what households need to electrify.

Bulli has gone electric

The success of Electrify 2515 created an opportunity to take the community approach next door.

In 2026, the pilot expanded into neighbouring Bulli (2516), bringing more households into the journey.

Bulli was a natural next step because there was strong interest from local residents and the community shares electricity infrastructure with the 2515 area.

Together, 2515 and 2516 are helping us understand how connected neighbourhoods can transition to clean, electric living.

Support for Bulli households

Participating Bulli households could access support including:

  • Subsidies of up to approximately $1,000 per appliance to replace gas appliances
  • Support to upgrade heating, hot water and cooking to electric
  • Smart energy devices to help monitor and manage energy use
  • The opportunity to contribute to a national research project
