Rewiring NSW Communities Program

Electrifying households across NSW
From helping families make sense of their energy bills, to holding EV rallies and boating expos, 15 community groups are now helping thousands of households in NSW make the switch to electric homes and lifestyles.
Our 15 groups, who are part of Rewiring Australia’s NSW Communities Program, stretch from Bermagui on the far south coast to the Northern Rivers, and from Western Sydney to Dubbo.
At the heart of all these projects are local people who know their communities and what will work best to electrify their corner of NSW.
Fifteen local groups
Community organisations running their own programs, in their own towns.

Beyond the usual networks
Footy clubs, libraries, markets and men’s sheds, not just environment groups.

Meet our 15 community partners
The ideas they have come up with to electrify their regions are as diverse as the communities themselves. Projects include exploring solar for apartments, using AFL players to connect with households not traditionally engaged in the energy transition, organising electric vehicle rallies and showcasing the future of sustainable transport through electric boating expos.
Greater Sydney

Footy for Climate
This project is delivering an electrification engagement campaign through local AFL clubs, including sponsored matches, appearances by AFL personalities, training sessions, match-day activations, information stalls and awards. By using community sport it is reaching households not normally engaged in climate or energy discussions.

Inner West Community Energy
This group is expanding household electrification education and practical support, with an emphasis on reaching multicultural and non-English-speaking communities. Activities may include information sessions, targeted outreach and a larger community electrification event.

Clean Energy for Eternity
Our Northern Sydney partners are expanding the Solar Ambassador program, training volunteers to provide independent household advice on solar, batteries, appliances, EV charging and rebates. They are using mapping tools and local partnerships to identify opportunities and connect residents with practical support.
Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast

Climate Action Newcastle and Wattblock
Organisers are developing a scalable solar assessment and engagement program for apartment buildings, using rooftop analysis and accessible property-level solar estimates, and deliver targeted engagement to the highest-value opportunities across Newcastle.

Peninsula Environment Group
A full-day electrification event is being planned including four evening information sessions and household energy consultations.

Energy Forever
This group is partnering with Charles Sturt University to train community energy advisers who can provide accessible electrification and energy-efficiency guidance. They are prioritising low-income households, Aboriginal communities and renters, alongside a public launch event with Ken Henry and Saul Griffith.
Illawarra, Southern Highlands and South Coast

Electrify Illawarra
A range of electrification events including open days, webinars, panels and public demonstrations is on the cards for the Illawarra, supported by a media campaign. Events include EVs, installers and practical advice for renters and strata residents.

Electrify Kiama
This project is delivering an EV rally pit-stop and sustainability showcase as part of Climate Action Week Sydney, featuring EV owners, practical demonstrations, presentations and information stalls from local community and climate organisations.

WinZero
By working with existing community organisations, including Rotary, CWA, Probus, Lions, U3A, schools and men’s sheds, WinZero is delivering accessible electrification presentations. Collectively they provide practical information and follow-up resources to reach beyond existing environmental networks.

Renewable Bermagui
The Bermagui team is organising an Electric Boating Expo showcasing electric and hybrid marine technologies, towing-capable EVs and practical electrification opportunities for boating and fishing communities, complemented by broader household electrification engagement.
Northern Rivers and New England

Tweed Climate Action Network and Zero Emissions Byron
The Northern Rivers community is supporting local not-for-profits to electrify and deliver community workshops featuring experts and local adopters. They are developing and piloting an electrification needs survey for lower-income households, helping identify barriers and inform future support programs.

Electrify Armidale
The team is running information sessions and targeted outreach in partnership with the Uniting Church in Tamworth.
Central West and Orana

Electrify 2800 and ECCO Orange
This group is expanding household electrification outreach through regional markets, library drop-in sessions and partnerships with multicultural, Aboriginal, CWA and food relief organisations. They are helping residents understand energy bills and identify practical next steps.

Bathurst Community Climate Action Network and Parents for Climate Action Bathurst Region
This group is delivering a household electrification campaign with a particular focus on replacing wood-fired heating and cooking. Activities include market stalls, community surveys, local cost comparisons, workshops with businesses and renewable-energy education.

Children’s Discovery and GLOW House
Out in Dubbo this project is delivering a travelling, hands-on household electrification education program combining physical GLOW House demonstration models with Electric Saul, Rewiring Australia’s new online household electrification tool. It is training library staff and community educators, and run public sessions in partnership with councils and libraries.
