Electrifying 1,000 Canberra homes

Canberra is taking the next big step.

Go Electric Canberra is a community-led project helping 1,000 households make the switch to efficient electric living.

The project is designed to test how electrification can work across different types of homes, household circumstances and energy needs — and create a model that other communities can use.
‍
Participating households will receive subsidies covering around a quarter of the cost of key upgrades.

Four ways we’re testing the future

Electrification at scale

Electrifying 1,000 homes will show what happens when a diverse mix of households make the switch together.

A simpler way to electrify

New digital tools, including AI, will help make the journey from getting a quote to booking an installer simpler and easier for households.

Smarter energy use

Smart EV charging, heat pumps and batteries will help households use energy when it makes sense for both the home and the grid.

EVs as energy assets

The project will include 200 vehicle-to-grid (V2G) installations, testing how electric vehicles can do more than get us from A to B.

Community First

At the heart of Go Electric is the community. Electrify Canberra will lead recruitment and engagement, building on years of local grassroots work and trusted relationships.

The goal is to ensure all households can take part, whether they own their home or rent, have a high or low income, or are just starting to think about electrification.

From Canberra to Australia

Go Electric Canberra isn’t just about 1,000 homes. It’s about finding better ways to help millions of Australian households electrify.

The tools, technology and approaches developed through the project - including the CQF 2.0 platform and Installer Marketplace - are designed to be repeatable and scalable.

What we learn in Canberra can help communities, governments and energy providers across Australia make the transition easier, faster and more affordable.
